You Are Now Connected
In the early 1900’s, the suburb of Claremont was a central meeting point for the Perth and Fremantle postal service, and had also just installed their first telephone exchange. Representing Claremont as a place for an exchange of information, ‘you are now connected’ allows passers-by to illuminate the four “wires” in a propagation of colour by activating each end using sound and motion.
The timber for the sculpture was salvaged from a 100 year old bridge in Mandurah, a city south of Perth.
